    • Part 2: What did you find useful about the online library after listening to the first two library tutorials (Unit 1 and Unit 2)?

Unit 3

  • Tutorial #3: Library Databases

  • Tutorial #4: Ebooks

  • Course content related to: Discussion

    • Part 1: Discuss one interesting thing that you learned about databases in library tutorial 3. Why did you find this information interesting? Have you ever searched through databases before in order to find information? Why or why not? How will using databases help you with your research process?
    • Part 2: Discuss one interesting thing that you learned about ebooks in library tutorial 4. Why did you find this information interesting? Have you ever used an ebook before? Why or why not? How will searching through ebooks help you with your research process?

Unit 4

  • Tutorial # 5: Exploratory Research: Narrowing your Topic

  • Course content related to: Assignment and discussion

    • Assignment: Review library tutorial 5 and read through the argumentative essay guidelines below. Next, develop three possible topics with a thesis statement for each topic for your essay. Submit your proposed research paper topics with working thesis statements.
    • Discussion: Library tutorial 5 focuses on the importance of exploratory research and narrowing your topic. Keeping this in mind, think about the large, general topic of movies. What advice would you offer your peers to help them narrow down the topic of "movies" if they had to write a three-page research paper on this topic? What is one possible thesis statement that you feel would fit their paper requirements?

  • Tutorial # 6: Focused Research: Concept Mapping and Brainstorming

  • Tutorial # 7: Focused Research: Search Strings

  • Course content related to: Assignment and discussion

    • Assignment: 1. Using the information you've learned in previous library tutorials and this week's library tutorial # 7, find three sources that you will be use in your research paper and summarize the importance and relevance of each source to your research. You should have a 3-5 sentence summary per source. Your sources should be specific articles from journals, newspapers, magazines, ebooks, or print books. 2. Concept maps are described in library tutorial 6. Develop a concept map for your argumentative research paper.
    • Discussion: Was the concept map helpful in drafting out your thoughts about your topic? Why or why not? What did you notice about your topic as you worked on your concept map? What steps will you take from here regarding your research?

Unit 6

  • Tutorial # 8: Evaluating Sources and Scholarly Sources

  • Tutorial  # 9: APA Citation and Plagiarism

  • Course content related to: Assignment and discussion

    • Assignment: Choose three resources and develop an example of each strategy [paraphrasing and quoting] for each resource (6 examples total). Sources must be cited in correct APA format for each strategy. A reference page must also be submitted for these three sources.
    • Discussion: Why is evaluating your sources important? What are some helpful tips to finding credible, relevant sources for your research paper?

Unit 7

    • Write a definition of plagiarism in your own words. How does citing your sources bolster your argument? Feel free to review the library tutorial on plagiarism for this discussion (tutorial 7).
