How to Add Links to the Library in Your Blackboard Course

Add links to the library in your Blackboard classes!

How to add links in Blackboard:

Blackboard Library Link

Every class has a library section (pictured to the right). We recommend that you add links to this section. You can add links by:

  1. Open the library section.
  2. Click on "edit view" in the upper right.
  3. Click on "external link" to add each link individually.
  4. Fill out the form. Be sure to include the name, URL, and description. Some examples are listed above.
  5. Under "options," select the radio button for the link to be opened in a new window.
  6. Click "submit."
  7. Click "ok."
  8. You've added the link!

How to add links to library resources:

Direct links to library resources won't be effective because you and your students will need to log in through the library website. Instead, we recommend that you add an APA style citation of the resource and instructions for finding the resource.

Here's an example:

Cohen, A. (2003, July). Turn around artist. (Management). Sales & Marketing
     Management, 155(7), p.40-45. Retrieved September 02, 2008, from Academic
     OneFile via Gale Database.

You can access the article by following these instructions:

  • Click on the Library link from the menu on the left side of the page in Blackboard.
  • Click on Online Library. A new window should open that shows the Globe Education Network Library website.
  • Hover your mouse over the Resources tab.
  • Click on Databases A-H.
  • Click on Academic OneFile [Gale]. You will be prompted for a username and password; enter the same information you use for your student email account.
  • In the Search box, type in “Turn Around Artist” (with the quotation marks) and click Search.
  • In the list of results, click on the Magazines tab.
  • Find the article “Turn Around Artist” by Andy Cohen (it should be the first one), and click on the full-text link for the article.
